Who we are
Groundworkers first, and it shows in everything else
Breaking Ground Ltd is led by Matt Nash and based in Colchester. The business grew out of groundworks: digging, drainage, concrete and the unglamorous engineering that decides whether a building or a driveway lasts. Everything we have added since, the landscaping, the paving, the resin and the full build packages, sits on that foundation.
That order matters. Plenty of firms lay beautiful paving over ground they never properly assessed, and plenty of builders subcontract the groundwork and inherit somebody else's compromises. We start underneath, control it ourselves, and only then worry about what the finished surface looks like.
Our clients are typically owners of larger properties across Essex and south Suffolk who have decided to invest in the outside of their home, or self builders who need a contractor with the plant and the paperwork to take a plot from clearance to completion. They are not looking for the lowest number on a page, and we are not trying to be it.

Four things we will not compromise on
These are the reasons clients recommend us, and the reasons we occasionally lose a job on price. We are comfortable with both.
We quote what the job needs
If a driveway needs digging out to 300mm and a new drainage run, that is what the price covers. We do not shave the specification to win a comparison against someone who is planning to resurface and hope.
We say no honestly
Small repairs, single fence panels and handyman jobs are not what we are set up for. Turning that work down keeps our team on the projects we are genuinely good at.
We stand behind the structure
A written ten year guarantee on our structural work means the incentive to build it properly sits with us, permanently.
We leave sites respectable
Boarded access, swept roads, protected surfaces and neighbours who are told what is happening before the machines arrive.
